[ March 10, 2026 ] The Pickens County Board of Education approved several leadership changes during its March 6, 2026 meeting. The changes will take effect for the 2026-2027 school year.
Dr. Brandon Tippens has been selected as the next principal of Pickens High School. Dr. Tippens brings 15 years of experience in education, including the past 12 years at Pickens High School. During his time at PHS, he has served as a classroom teacher, Lead Special Education Teacher, Special Education Department Head, Assistant Principal, and most recently as Director of PACE for the past three years. He holds a Doctorate in School Improvement from the University of West Georgia.
Current Pickens High School Principal Matt Combs will move into the role of Director of Curriculum. He will replace Anita Walker, who is retiring.
Mr. Combs has served as principal at Pickens High School for the past three years and is in his 24th year in education. Under his leadership, the school has seen improvements in graduation rates, gains on the state report card, and continued efforts to strengthen academics while maintaining a positive school culture.
Superintendent Dr. Thomas thanked Mr. Combs for his leadership at PHS and expressed confidence in his transition to the district office. He also shared excitement about Dr. Tippens stepping into the principal role and the leadership he will bring to Pickens High School.
