[ January 08, 2018 ] Jasper City Council votes to appoint Jim Looney as the Jasper City Manager instead on Mayor John Weaver.

John Foust was elected Mayor Pro Tem, and then ran the Organization meeting to appoint the Jasper City Manager. Dr. Sonny Proctor nominated Jim Looney, and Tony Fountain nominated Mayor John Weaver. Council voted 2-1 in favor to appoint Mr. Looney.

After a lengthy executive session, the Council voted to appoint Mr. Looney on February 1st in order for him to give notice to his employer and resign from his council seat, a requirement iterated by City Attorney Bill Pickett. Mayor Weaver agreed to be interim City Manager until the appointment and stated, "The city comes first, and that will be my intent."
