[ February 26, 2019 ] The City of Jasper held a public meeting to discuss sewerage system improvements funded by Georgia?s Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) on February 26, 2019, at 10:00 AM, at Jasper City Hall.

Mayor Weaver stated, "When we run out of sewer and don't borrow this money to expand our waste water treatment plant, that is when you stop the growth in the City of Jasper."

HIGHLIGHTS:
- Increase the waste water treatment plant's treatment capacity from 0.78 MGD to 1.56 million gallons per day (double current)
- Less restrictive waste load allocation to pump treated effluentt to Long Swamp Creek rather than Polecat Branch
- Budget is 7.66 million dollars
- Ground could be broken before the end of the year
- More public hearings to come

The purpose of the public meeting is to:

1. Inform the public of the need for improvements to the City?s sewerage system;
2. To comply with the requirements of the Clean Water Act and with the public participation requirements of Georgia?s Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) Environmental Review Process; and,
3. To encourage public involvement in the development of a plan to improve the system.

During the public meeting the City will attempt to identify public preferences for alternative methods of improving the City?s sewerage facilities. These alternatives will be evaluated and included in the City?s Engineering Report and Environmental Review and Planning Document, the major planning documents covering the sewerage system. These documents are available for public inspection through the date of the public meeting at the City of Jasper offices located at 200 Burnt Mountain Road, Jasper, Georgia 30143.
