HCES Nursing Home Angels: Kindness & Community Service with an Assembly Line Twist

[ January 15, 2020 ] In the fall, Hill City Elementary students practiced kindness by donating to the Nursing Home Angels Project, an opportunity for students to collect travel-size hygiene items, soft snack cakes, hard candies, blankets, baby dolls, and slipper socks.

The culmination of this community service effort was Mrs. Smith?s Christmas Fun Factory, where HCES students learned the history and purpose of the assembly line. Then, students used assembly line principles to create quality Christmas cards and gift bags. Those cards and bags were then combined with hygiene items and snacks to create & pack Christmas Care Kits for local nursing home residents at Wildwood and Pruitt healthcare facilities.

HCES Hawks learned the sad reality that many of the elderly residents do not receive visits, phone calls, or gifts--causing them to feel isolated and lonely. However, students worked cooperatively to DO GOOD with their hands and creative minds, so that nursing home residents will know that they are remembered and cared for.

Doing good always FEELS GOOD and makes our corner of the world a better place to be! Therefore, we at Hill City Elementary challenge all Pickens County residents to INTENTIONALLY practice kindness in 2020--as these kind acts develop empathy for others and positive citizenship!
