[ February 20, 2020 ] The search for the next Superintendent of Pickens County School District is progressing on schedule. To date, the Board has received 23 applications. The application period closes on February 28, 2020. Applications received so far include individuals currently serving as principals, assistant superintendents, and superintendents. Most of the applications are from within Georgia with several from out of state.
The Board has received electronic input from 571 community members and 284 school system employees regarding the qualifications and skills believed to be most important in selection of the next Superintendent. In the surveys, both community members and employees were asked to rank 31 qualifications and characteristics on a scale from very important to not important in selection of the next Superintendent. There was almost total agreement in the survey results of employees and community members. In both surveys, the five items ranked as most important were:
▪ Honesty
▪ Strong work ethic
▪ Willing to listen to students, parents, community, and staff
▪ Willing to make tough decisions
▪ High ethical and moral standards
In both surveys, the two items ranked as least important were:
▪ Experience in school system(s) different from Pickens County
▪ History of successful employment with Pickens County School System

The Board will use results from the community and employee surveys to guide the selection of applicants to interview, to structure the interview process, and in the final selection of the next Superintendent. The Board plans to begin interviewing applicants in mid-March and hopes to conclude the search by mid-April.
