The Pickens Report - July 2020

[ August 11, 2020 ] Throughout the month of July Pickens County Government has remained very busy. Construction of the new Pickens County Public Works facility is complete and will be opening in the next few weeks. Also, the new Pickens County Recycling Center located off Appalachian Court is nearly ready to open. The main recycling operations will transfer from Camp Road to the new facility sometime in August.

The 2020 paving bid packet is now available at the Pickens County Administrative Offices. Bids will be accepted thru August 27th at 1 pm. The county will resurface roughly 11.3 miles of roads with this paving contract.

During the month of July:

▸ The Department of Planning and Development issued 64 new building permits.

▸ The Water Department installed 17 new meters.

▸ The Pickens Animal Shelter brought in 55 new animals and 59 went out through various forms of adoption. Animal Control responded to eight cases.

▸ The 911 Operations Center received 1,828 total calls, 745 were medical responses or fire related.

▸ The Pickens County Recreation Department completed another year of Summer Camp. The program was largely successful, especially, considering the complexities brought on by COVID-19. PCRD will begin offering basketball registration in September.

▸ The Road Department is continuing routine maintenance and will begin tar and graveling the dirt portion of Hobson Road and Free Hope Church Road in the coming weeks.

The Pickens County government departments continue to stay busy working for the citizens of Pickens County. The Pickens County Board of Commissioners continue to do a great job of leading these efforts.
