Pickens County Schools CLOSED; Meal Delivery Suspended Until November 2nd

[ October 30, 2020 ] The Pickens County School District sent out two press releases late Thursday, October 29, 2020 concerning closing of schools and delay of meals due to power outages. Both are listed below:

SCHOOL CLOSING (11:00 pm)
Since our earlier release this evening, the district has learned that many families will not have power restored until late Sunday evening.

With that in mind, the decision has been made to cancel school for all traditional and virtual students, as well as for staff on Friday, October 30, 2020. Please note, 12-month employees may choose to work from home or report to their worksite.

Continue to remain safe and reach out to us if we can assist you or your family in any way.

MEAL SERVICE (6:43 pm)
We hope that all of our families and staff are safe this evening. We have been monitoring the power situation across the county and many places are still waiting for power to be restored. Some of our schools remain without power.

Without power in some of our buildings, we cannot prepare and serve meals to students tomorrow as we had planned. We will resume meal service on Monday, November 2, 2020. All school and sport activities are canceled for tomorrow as well.

As mentioned, we know that there are some parts of the county without power, and student and staff families may still be affected. Students and staff will continue with distance learning assignments or if virtual, with assignments through Pickens Virtual Academy. If you do not have power, you can complete assignments when it becomes available.

We hope all of our families and staff remain safe and healthy.
