[ October 31, 2020 ] We are so proud to announce that the cooperative local/state monies have been secured for the Pickens County Library?s addition!
This partnership has been in the works for 6 years while the local library board saved their portion (the county?s sales tax) in Pickens County?s SPLOST dedicated for this purpose, until they had their share ($1.5 million) of the renovation cost. This then enabled the state to add 2 million dollars to the bond package to get the renovation going.
State Senators Payne and Gooch, and State House Representative Rick Jasperse passed the matching funds in House Bill 793 in late June.
House Representative Rick Jasperse worked hard to make sure funding was in the state budget during this pandemic year 2020 when many projects had to be sidelined with budget limits. Senator Gooch and Senator Payne worked on the Senate side to keep the funding in the senate budget.
Representative Jasperse is on the Appropriations, Higher Education (libraries), and Education K-12 (Chair) committees and had direct influence on this budgetary item. He wants to thank the board members in 2014 who had the vision and worked with the community to fund the renovation and expansion.
We are looking forward to this project getting underway to meet the needs of our community.
