The following letter was posted on Pickens High School social media concerning the Nettes Basketball Elite 8 game on March 2, 2021 at 5:30 pm.
Dragon Nation Families,
Words cannot express the excitement and sense of pride I feel for our Dragonettes Basketball Team! These players, coaches and managers have worked extremely hard, and it shows each time they take the floor for competition. While this season has presented challenges never faced before, this team has responded like true champions. As their journey continues, please join me in giving them our unfettered support!
Our Nettes will face Cairo High School in Cairo for the GHSA Elite 8 game at 5:30 p.m. on March 2nd. The placement of this game was determined by a GHSA coin flip. Admission to this contest is limited to parents, siblings and GHSA passholders only. These conditions are put in place by the host school and we must comply. I have personally spoken to the Cairo High School principal and he assures me that their fans were given the same restrictions. I understand that more people from Pickens would like to make the 291-mile trek, but these limitations are beyond our control. Coach Thomas has already delivered this information to the players and their parents, and a list of attendees has been provided to Cairo High School.
We have been told that the game will be shared via live stream. [Editor note: Nettes Basketball posted United National Bank will live stream on Facebook. ETC customers can watch on Channels 3 and 403 ] When that information is available, we will share that to our school Facebook page and other social media outlets. It is also my understanding that WYYZ (local Jasper radio station) will be broadcasting over the radio.
I want to take a moment and thank the Dragon Nation faithful who have supported these girls all year. "Electric" is the best word I can come up with to describe the atmosphere inside the gym at the last couple of games! I also want to thank Head Coach Brandon Thomas and his staff, who have done a fantastic job with this program. Lastly, thank you to these players, who have been outstanding representatives and ambassadors for our school. The amount of heart and determination that they have shown inspires us all. It truly is a great day to be a Dragon and a Dragonette! Now, let's go to Cairo and get that W! We are Dragon Nation United!
