[ May 11, 2021 ] A letter sent to Pickens County School District families announced the district will not offer full-time virtual instruction for the 2021-2022 school year. Letter below:
To all Pickens County School District families,
Virtual Learning has presented a host of challenges for students and families in our system and across Georgia. The district has continually monitored data and engaged in conversations with students, parents, and administrators. Many of our students have struggled to satisfactorily complete the assignments offered through the Pearson platform. We want to provide our students quality learning opportunities and we are not able to do that virtually.
Because of the challenges and concerns for our students and families, Pickens County School District will not offer full-time virtual instruction for the 2021-2022 school year. Families who prefer a virtual option for their children will have access to home school programs, state virtual schools, and online state charter schools. These virtual options are not connected to Pickens County School District, so it will be important to apply and enroll as soon as possible. Additional information is available on the Georgia Department of education website here.
We look forward to welcoming all students back for a traditional, in-person schedule for the 2021-2022 school year. Our first day of classes will be Monday, August 2, 2021. The district will continue to focus on the health and safety of our students along with having preventative protocols in place that follow the guidelines outlined by local and state healthcare partners.
Sincerely,
Tony Young
Superintendent
