District Governor Visits Jasper Lions Club August Meeting
First Vice District Governor Al Hernandez, Jasper Lions President Pauline Maturo and District Governor Pamela Williams.

[ September 05, 2021 ] On August 26th, the Jasper Lions Club welcomed District Governor Pamela Williams from the Marietta Lions Club and First Vice Governor Al Hernandez from the East Cobb Lions Club to our meeting.

District Governor Williams is retired from the military after 22 years of service. She is originally from New York and became a Georgian after serving at Fort McPherson. She got involved with the Lions Club through her uncle who founded a Lions Club in Neptune, New Jersey. One of his Lions clubs activities was partnering with a school that taught Blind youth and adults how to surf! He involved her in so many Lions projects teaching her to ?serve from the heart?.

DG Williams reminded us that Lions club members are very often among the first responders when there is a disaster. She pointed out that after the tsunami in Thailand, there are pictures of people in Lions Club vests helping survivors. DG Williams lived in St. Louis during one of the floods and remembers Lions Club members being there helping the community alongside the military.

EACH ONE REACH ONE is the theme DG Williams has chosen for her year serving as District Governor. She encouraged us to talk up the Lions Club at every opportunity and to encourage young people to get involved.

First Vice District Governor Al Hernandez, a Vietnam Veteran, also spoke to us. He encouraged us to keep interesting projects going and to reach out to potential Lions Club members. FVDG Hernandez told us that to start a new Lions Club you need 20 members, but for a Branch Lions Club you only need 5! He reminded us of our District Rally coming up Oct. 30th In Alpharetta.

It was a joy and privilege to host these two military veterans and distinguished Lions to our meeting. We welcome them to return anytime!

The Jasper Lions Club meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month in Walker Hall at the First Baptist Church of Jasper. For more information, call 706.253.LION (5466) or email us at georgialions@mac.com.
