[ December 09, 2022 ] UPDATE from Kris Stancil, Chairman of Pickens County Board of Commissioners:

I wanted to let you know that the City of Jasper and Pickens County have agreed on the LOST distribution percentages and are preparing to submit the necessary paperwork to the Georgia Department of Revenue.

The distribution allocations are as follows:

Jasper 25.26 %
Nelson 3.05 %
Talking Rock 1.69 %
Pickens 70.00 %

The only difference between the agreed upon rate, is that Nelson and Talking Rock were increased slightly, and the City of Jasper had a slight decrease to account for that. The prior allocations were as follows:

Jasper 25.70 %
Nelson 2.80 %
Talking Rock 1.50 %
Pickens 70.00 %

All Georgia Counties that impose a Local Option Sales Tax (LOST), O.C.G.A. (48-8-80 through 48-8-97) requires that counties and qualified municipalities renegotiate allocations within two years after each new census.

Pickens County, the City of Jasper, and the City of Nelson began this negotiation process on July 19, 2022, at Chattahoochee Technical College (100 Campus Drive), Jasper, GA.

Sutton Consulting made a proposal on behalf of the City of Jasper at the first meeting on July 19th:
Pickens County 63.38%
City of Jasper 35.09%
City of Nelson 1.12%
Talking Rock .040%
