[ December 09, 2022 ] Mr. Tony Young, Superintendent of Pickens County School District will retire effective December 31, 2022, after 30 years of service. Under Mr. Young?s leadership, the district has reached several key milestones with the most important one being a shift in focus to teaching and learning.
"Our business is educating students and providing the supports needed to foster success and achievement. We have some of the best teachers, leaders, and staff in the state and I am confident that everyone will continue to focus on the right thing - our students."
The Board of Education named Dr. Janet Goodman, Chief Academic Officer, as the Interim Superintendent effective January 1, 2023. Dr. Goodman joined the Pickens County School District as Federal Programs Director in August of 2021 and was then named Chief Academic Officer where she leads the curriculum and instruction team of the district.
She and her husband Frank relocated to Jasper from West Georgia along with their two dogs, Piglet and Weewee. They enjoy being able to explore the beautiful North Georgia mountains and making our community their forever home. They recently became first-time grandparents, welcoming a bouncing baby boy, Jamie, into their family.
Dr. Goodman is excited about the opportunity to serve the community through this additional role.
She shared, ?Mr. Young has done an excellent job of leading the district in focusing on the right work. My plan is to build on the foundation he has provided and to continue working to make Pickens County one of the top districts in the state.?
Dr. Goodman has worked in a variety of settings as a K-12 special education teacher, director of a community preschool, school administrator, district administrator, Board Certified Behavior Analyst, and interim superintendent in Haralson County.
