Immediate Change for Dragon Drive Intersection

[ January 29, 2023 ] UPDATE: Signal installed on March 22, 2023.

In order to help everyone stay safe during arrival at PHS we are implementing the following changes over the next few months:

△ Beginning Monday, January 30, 2023, there will be a Pickens County Sheriff's patrol car with static blue lights parked near the intersection of GA Hwy. 53 and Dragon Drive. We hope this measure helps everyone to be more aware and cautious as they approach the traffic light.

△ Yellow flashing lights will be installed on the school zone signs. This will be part of the Automated Traffic Enforcement Safety Devices voted on and approved by BOE members on October 28, 2022. We are currently waiting for these to be installed by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).

△ We also have been in contact over the past two weeks with GDOT to have the left turn arrow from GA Hwy. 53 into Dragon Drive turn to a red arrow when the northbound traffic has a green light, instead of no arrow, as it is now.
We will continue to work with GDOT to discuss more long term solutions to the flow of traffic at this intersection.

Please talk to your children who drive to school and remind them to be extra cautious and remain undistracted at this intersection. Remember, until the red arrow is implemented, they must yield to oncoming traffic if they are turning left onto Dragon Drive. We want everyone to arrive safely at all times, both coming and going, from Pickens High School.
