[ April 15, 2024 ] From morning chill to Spring thrill. What a beautiful day... until the winds blew in. So many vendors were scrambling to 'catch' their tents before being blown away. At least one tent almost made it to the creek!

Due to some previous unexpected blasts of wind, it has been a market policy to have the tent legs weighted. Vendors use filled water jugs, tent leg weights, and a few other clever ideas using cement. Still, when Mother Nature sends a big blast people have to jump into action to be sure! Tents are not a requirement, so many of them were put away early.

Despite all the action, the market atmosphere remained happy and positive. With so many vegetable seedlings and plants looking for new gardens to fill, customers were excited. Dreams of homegrown tomatoes, peppers, and squash filled people's minds. Hostas and hydrangeas were popular choices, too.

If you're looking for fruiting plants, Angelina brought her gooseberry shrubs. She also features snowball viburnums and hypertufa planters with mixed plants. At least one couple offered mild jalapenos which is great for tender taste buds.

The Jasper Farmers Market will also bring in services like Tony Whitfield's Y-Not-Sharp tool sharpening. Everyone can use a new edge!

A newcomer from Fairmount offers upholstery work and more. The family business is called Your Designs Drapery Workroom, ETC, LLC. If you were thinking of refreshing your living room furniture or brightening up the kitchen windows, Your Designs offers many options for making that dream come true!

And speaking of services, the Jasper Farmers Market is sponsored by the Pickens County Master Gardeners. The MGs set up their plant tent with great results. The MGs offer homegrown plants for your home gardens and a learning opportunity.

Elaine Landrum showed off her homegrown Loofah and explained how to grow the plant, prep, and use the Loofah. Did you know that Loofah can be eaten? The young (under 6 inches) fruit can be eaten fresh or cooked like squash. It is quite popular in Asian cuisine. If the fruit is over 6 inches then peeling is required as the skin will be bitter. However, the most popular use of this unique plant 'round here, is to make sponges! By the way, it's a vine.

And the FM has many clever vendors creating unique items of interest for your homes or gifting. Dan's Wooden Creations offers a Shut The Box game, cheese slicers, and a hidden drawer. What's that? Better go and see what Dan Brown is up, too, next Saturday at the Jasper Farmers Market.

The market is opens at 7:30 am bright 'n early and closes at noon. You will find the happy market near Lee Newton Park across from the Veterans Memorial Park which is just off of Hwy 53.

VENDOR INFORMATION

Vendor Selling Fee: $3 charged and will be collected by the Jasper Farmers Market manager at each market.

A vendor is any person/persons that take up a space in the market area.

Vendors should arrive by 7 am with setup complete by opening at 7:30 am.

Everything must be homemade, homemade or homegrown.
