[ August 19, 2024 ] Pickens High School proudly unveiled their new Jim Locke Field House on August 16, 2024 prior to the football season opener.
This state-of-the-art facility, covering 7,884 square feet, will serve as a hub for various sports teams, including football, boys and girls soccer, and boys and girls track and field. It features dressing areas, training facilities, meeting rooms, and offices.
The construction of the field house was made possible through ESPLOST (Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) funds. ESPLOST is a one-cent tax dedicated to funding public education projects, such as buildings, facilities, transportation, and technology. Future projects funded by ESPLOST include renovations to Pickens High School, Hill City Elementary, and Harmony Elementary.
Superintendent Dr. Travis Thomas expressed his excitement, stating, "Our new field house is more than a building. It is where teamwork and individual growth are both fostered, where dreams take shape, and where futures are forged. We are thrilled to add another premier facility to our school district".
With over 500 students involved in the athletic program, the new field house will provide much-needed space and significantly enhance the experience for student-athletes.
